Meet FLASH! This beautiful dark chestnut gelding has the seldom seen red mane and tail that makes him a standout among the sea of ordinary chestnuts, bays and blacks. With classic, typey build, and loads of personality, he catches everyone’s eye wherever we go!

His training got a late start in life through no fault of his own, so he was just started under saddle in April of this year. Although he's now very solid, I still consider him green. He’s responsive, willing, and loves to learn.

Light on the aids, with an attentive but quiet temperament, he's the first to greet you at the gate asking to come work. He thrives on connection with his person, and wants all the attention he can get from anyone who stops.

His training background is a combination of Natural Horsemanship and R+ training. In the arena, he's steady and focused. He does have some arena anxiety, and if he is nervous or his rider is all over the place, he can start off with bigger strides when asked for the trot, and if your seat isn’t quiet he can get scooty when asked for the canter. But he settles down within a few strides and quickly balances out. Then with light cues of your legs, he canters quietly anywhere in the arena you ask.

He transitions quietly for me, but this is something we have been working on. Be ready to stop when you sit deep and because he can put a quarter horse to shame. He will stand politely while others work around him, so you can provide coaching and feedback to others from his back.

On the trail, Flash thrives. Confident and relaxed, he walks out on a loose rein, trots/canters quietly, and is unfazed by dogs rushing up behind him or zooming around him in the woods. (We have 5 border collies on site to thank for this.) He’s happiest exploring the woods, and would excel as a trail or endurance partner. He is good in the lead and good to follow. Big groups of horses make him nervous, unless he knows them. He has been ridden mainly by himself on trails, but I am not advertising him as a solo trail horse.

He is spider web proof! If his rider freaks out because they hit a web with their face, he promptly stops and waits for you to regain your composure before moving off. Crosses creeks and logs without hesitation.

Flash has been ridden western, but is set up to go either way in the future. Has potential for ranch classes or low-level dressage with further training. Though confident, I don’t consider him a beginner’s horse—he is green and best suited for an intermediate/advanced rider or a program that can continue his education.

Great ground manners, currently barefoot, stands for farrier/vet, easy to catch, low in the herd, and content alone or with others. No health issues. Has loaded in all trailer types (straight load, slant load, and stock trailer) and travels quiet. Needs continued work with: Bathing/fly spray and staying quiet around heavy equipment. He is offered ONLY because I’m too tall for him at 5'9. He goes with a first-right-of-refusal contract to ensure his best home fit.
